I have to appologize for the lack of posts lately, i’ve been busy working on a lot of stuff for ”Winds of Edea”, on top of that I have been struggling with this one post i’m writing about romance as a video game genre. So bear with me.

I wanted to let you in on something though, one of our artists at Snow Castle, Fredrik Tyskerud and I have been talking about a book lately, and how it would work as a game. I recently started reading “The Lies of Locke Lamora” by Scott Lynch, which it turns out Fredrik has already read 2-3 times.

The book is very facinating, and Scott Lynch has painted (with words mind you) a gritty world with vivid characters which will fill your mind with inspiration and conger images of a gloomy world filled with evil thieving bastards.

Although I have only read 50 or so pages, it is so far the best book I have read and I look forward to finishing the book so that I start reading rest of the 7 book series!

I digress.

Fredrik will be drawing/painting concept art of the various characters and places in the book, whilst I’ll figure out how this would work as a game. A funny side project to work on, and something to keep me more occupied then I should be!

So, hopefully I’ll be blogging about the progress of our work as we get things done.

Some of you may already know me, but some of you might not. So before I go ahead and tell you my goal for this blog, I should let you know who I am first.

My name is Mattis Bødtker (Matt Bodtker for the English speaking audience); I’m a student at the Norwegian School of Information Tech. (NITH) where I am pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Game Design. I’m currently working as a Lead Designer for Snow Castle AS in Oslo, Norway… And I love games!

To be more specific, I don’t just love games because they are fun to play, but because they mean so much more to us than we think, something I will touch upon in future posts. But also the process of creating games (read experiences, emotions, ideas and entertainment) from simple idea, to finished artworks. (video games are art,  don’t let anybody tell you different)

My goal for this blog is to share my experiences with game development, how it all works, share ideas for games and design, hints and tips for the aspiring game developer and more. The video game industry is fascinating, but also a pain in the ass. But no matter how dark it may seem at times, you will always love doing it, learn more from it and thank yourself for doing what you do. It is a passion after all.

In the next coming posts I will be talking about my experience in Microsoft’s ImagineCup in a multipart series, touching on various aspects of the Indi game development scene.
